If you have the serial number of the door It will help narrow down the actual lock that you have and the dialing sequence. The dialing sequence depends on the lock that you have and the number of wheels. The older Cary locks may have enough room to look through the "Fence" hole to line up the gates. If the lock is one of the earlier Cary's or the later S&G lock, you will have to visually dial the lock to see where each wheel aligns in order to figure out the combination. There will be an "index mark" on the inner hub that will line up with the selected number. If the lock is the Yale Y6 version, simply dissassemble the wheel pack and reading each number locked in on each wheel, will give you the numbers for your combination. A key was used to "unlock" the wheels, dialing the combination to a special index mark on the dial ring would set the combo. The last locks used were Sergeant & Greenleaf R6720 key change locks. The relationship between the inner hub and outer wheel would determine the combination number for that wheel. The Y6 wheels used an inner hub pressed into the outer wheel. Later on Cary used a Yale Y6 hand change lock. The use of screws in the wheels dictated where the combination would line up as the lock was dialed. The early locks were considered a "hand change" version. The Cary Safe Company made some really nice safes, but I can't recall seeing a Vault Door, I'd like to see some pictures.
